A kind heart, a beautiful soul, a lasting legacy

Myra Maboya (1956–2024) was a devoted educationist, community leader, and cherished family member. Born in Shirley, Elim, she inspired countless students, colleagues, and community members through her passion for education, faith, and service. Known for her warm smile and kind heart, Myra devoted herself to her family, community, and church. She is survived by three children and eight grandchildren. Her legacy lives on in all whose lives she touched.

A Life Beautifully Remembered
Myra Maboya’s life was marked by dedication, compassion, and service. Born on 11 November 1956 in Shirley, Elim, she was the second of six children of Henry and Alice Bandi. Her name, meaning “Beloved, Favorable, Admirable,” reflected the warmth and respect she earned from everyone who knew her.

Known for her infectious laughter and generous heart, Myra balanced her professional life with devotion to her family, nurturing strong bonds with her children and grandchildren. Her legacy is one of transformative impact through education, faith, and community service.

Education & Career
She attended Ximuwini Primary School and Lemana Secondary School, then trained as a teacher at Tivumbeni Teacher Training College. Myra pursued further studies internationally: Bristol University (EdD), University of KwaZulu-Natal (Masters), University of South Carolina, University of Limpopo, and others.

Throughout her career, she served as teacher, principal, and mentor, inspiring countless students. Myra actively promoted social justice and educational equity, uplifting underprivileged communities and mentoring aspiring educators.

Community & Faith
A devoted churchgoer and volunteer, she served through the St Vincent De Paul Society and other initiatives, encouraging her children to emulate her life of service.

Family & Legacy
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Myra cherished her family, often coordinating gatherings behind the scenes. She is survived by three children—Amukelani Maboya, Rhandiwani Makhubele, and Vunene Maboya—and eight grandchildren. Her legacy lives on in the many lives she touched through education, compassion, and unwavering dedication to humanity.
